Arthur Carl Anderson was born in Oslo, Norway in 1856.  He was landscape painter whose career as an artist was secondary to his career as an arts administrator with the Ogden school district.  He died in Ogden, Utah in 1897.

Anderson lived in Laie, Hawaii from 1879 to 1883 where he painted landscapes.  Returning to Utah, he found employment with the Ogden public school system.  He later began his long-time commitment as the supervisor of art for the Ogden school district.  He also taught at the Weber Art Academy until his death.  Artist Painting in a Sublime Landscape, Hogsback on the Bear River, Idaho (1893), an oil painting, shows the influence of the Rocky Mountain style of painting.  His name also appears on an illustration for a story by Nephi Anderson in a periodical called The Contributor.
