| Dorothy Bearnson |

Dorothy Bearnson, one of the nation's most respected ceramists and educators, was born in Salt Lake City. At various times, she has lived in Chicago, Illinois; Palo Alto, California; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Salt Lake City from 1942 to the present. Bearnson did undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Virginia (1941-42) and University of Utah (B.A., 1943; M.A. 1945), and her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions. She has held a number of teaching positions at the University of Utah - instructor of art (1962-72), associate professor of art (1972-77); and professor of art (1977- 99) - and has recently her first half century of teaching.
