David Newton Cox (1939-), of Huntsville, Utah, is a semi- abstractionist ceramic sculptor and also a traditional potter. A fine educator as well, Cox joined the Weber State College [now University] art department faculty in Ogden in 1971, to add new life to the ceramics and sculpture offerings there. He has subsequently served very effectively as chairperson of that program. Cox was born in Gilroy, California; attended nearby San Jose State University (B. A., Pre-theology, M.A. Ceramic Sculpture); and then went to Ohio State University (M.F.A.). He is an excellent craftsman and a highly creative artist and teacher.
