Alfred Crawford was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1948. He lived in California for a couple of years during his early childhood. He attended the University of Utah and the Salt Lake Community College where he studied art, printing, and graphic design. Alfred worked professionally doing Process Screen Printing, Process Camera, and Graphic Design. In the 1980's, he continued his art studies at the University of Utah. He has exhibited in Group and Solo shows and sold works to private collectors. He is also a Two Star Member of the Utah Watercolor Society.

Artist Statement
The work that I am currently doing is based on the concepts of contrast and the conservation of energy and matter. The conservation of energy and matter states that mater and energy can not be created or destroyed but can only change forms. Using this and the idea of
contrast, I create visualizations which are represented as slices of a world or universe of changing elements moving from the solid to the fugitive. Using geometric and free form elements, I create a tension between what may be a reality of familiar shapes and the chaos of free form gesture. I explore the concept of contrast using color and shape with illusions of reality to create a space that, in an alternate universe, would be believable. Currently, I am using computers in designing and visualizing virtual spaces in 3-D to help realize the ideas I have.
Occasionally I create more representative work but using a different viewpoint from the expected. I use different colors or views of the subject or distorted perspectives that distances it from the norm.
