Maureen Ure was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1949.  A talented and creative mixed media artist, she creates works that are coded assemblages.  She lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

O’Hara Ure earned a BFA in art history from the University of Utah in 1979.  She studied sculpture under Vincent Ginsky at New York University (1971–72).  She earned an MFA from the University of Utah in 1979 where Frank Anthony Smith was an influence.

O’Hara Ure works in acrylic, inks, colored pencils, and gesso on word construction.  She uses found objects to suggest stories told in a kind of code.  Her Mystery Theater (1981) is an example.  She is currently an assistant lecturer of painting and drawing at the University of Utah where she has been the recipient of numerous awards.  Her work has been shown in numerous one- and two-person shows in Salt Lake City and other major cities.  She is represented by the Phillips Gallery in Salt Lake City.  Ure’s paintings are held in the collections of Salt Lake County, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and the Utah State collection of fine arts.
