SUMMARY: August 2008

The Marriott Library’s east side entrance has been closed for approximately a year now. But come late October, the majority of construction will be completed and new areas will be open to students. Here’s what New spaces will open in October:

Second Floor
Knowledge Commons Area – (computers and reference desk still to come!)
Small Group Study Rooms

Third Floor
Atrium soft seating
George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Grand Reading Room

Fourth Floor
George S. Eccles Special Collections Research and Reading Room

As soon as final occupancy permits are received, the library will proceed with such remaining renovation-related items as installing new furnishings, working with vendors to complete the Audio Visual installations in the 8 new classrooms, and moving collections and library staff back into the renovated building.

The last piece of the construction will begin in January 2009 and last approximately six months. The final phase will focus on the construction of a new Cafe, renovation of the Gould Auditorium, and will provide improved sites for the Technology Assisted Curriculum Center, Reserve Desk and the University Writing Center.

COLLECTIONS LOCATIONS
All collections have been consolidated on Levels 1 and 2.

On Level 1, you will find A-DK, Juvenile, Curriculum, Q-Z monographs, maps, microfilm, and documents; and on Level 2, DL-PZ, current periodicals, TL-Z journals, Deweys, and oversized books.

The Browsing Collection has been relocated to the second floor lobby near the west entrance, outside of TACC .

    About the ARC
  • The new ARC (Automated Retrieval Center) makes it possible for our
collection and services to fit within the newly renovated building. Many
books will will still be on open shelves. A robot will pull the bin where it
is stored and a clerk will remove the volume you need.
